The Green & Blue Open Air on the first September weekend has become a fixed date in the festival schedule for seven years now. Each year towards the end of summer, Sven Vath and his crew have turned the Waldschwimmbad in Obertshausen near Frankfurt into a dream of green meadow, blue water, lots of trees and light installations, ending with a grand final with laser show and fireworks and, above all, being surrounded by music from the best artists that the electronic music scene has to offer.
In this year, the second edition of the associated Mix-CD is to be released, mixed by two DJs who are able to revert on both long-time experience and innovation in sound: Tobi Neumann and Onur Ozer. On these two CDs (each DJ is responsible for one mix), the two excellent turntable artists – who, as a team are also known as Sensitiva – are giving an outline of current Techno and TechHouse tracks.

The Smashing Pumpkins’ greatest-hits album, Rotten Apples, traces the band’s evolution (or devolution, depending on your feelings about the band’s radical sonic shift in the mid-’90s) from its early days to its status among the kings of alt rock. For fans of the Pumpkins’ beginnings as a tripped-out indie/art rock act, Apples opens with some of the band’s strongest material. “Siva” and “Rhinoceros” (from Gish, the Pumpkin’s first–and arguably best–album) seamlessly mixed dream pop with noisy goth-rock as prime examples of the Pumpkins’ early ’90s sound. Apples also showcases three stellar tracks (”Cherub Rock,” “Today,” and “Disarm”) from Siamese Dream, the Pumpkins’ breakout album. This disc makes the band’s mid-’90s directional swing obvious, though, starting with “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” the aggressive alt rock/alt metal concoction released on Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Fans of songs like “Zero,” “Tonight, Tonight,” and “The Everlasting Gaze” will be happy to know that pretty much every cage-rattling hit made it to this disc, along with the previously unreleased dream pop track “Real Love” and an untitled new track (that sounds a lot like the Siamese Dream-era Pumpkins) to round out the mix.

Of all the major alternative rock bands of the early ’90s, the Smashing Pumpkins were the group least influenced by traditional underground rock. Lead guitarist/songwriter Billy Corgan fashioned an amalgam of progressive rock, heavy metal, goth rock, psychedelia, and dream pop, creating a layered, powerful sound driven by swirling, distorted guitars. Corgan was wise enough to exploit his angst-ridden lyrics, yet he never shied away from rock star posturing, even if he did cloak it in allegedly ironic gestures. In fact, the Smashing Pumpkins became the model for alternative rock success. Nirvana was too destructive and Pearl Jam shunned success. The Pumpkins, on the other hand, knew how to play the game, signing to a major-subsidized indie for underground credibility and moving to the major in time to make the group a multi-platinum act. And when the group did achieve mass success with 1993’s Siamese Dream, they went a long way to legitimize heavy metal and orchestrated prog rock, helping move alternative rock even closer to ’70s AOR, especially in the eyes of radio programmers and mainstream audiences. Unlike many of their contemporaries, the Pumpkins were able to withstand many internal problems and keep selling records, emerging as the longest-lasting and most successful alternative band of the early ’90s.

Southern Weather is the debut album from The Almost. It is a side project of Underoath drummer Aaron Gillespie. It was released on April 3, 2007. The whole album can be previewed at The Almost’s MySpace page. The full album leaked onto the Internet on March 26.

The album debuted at number 39 on the U.S. Billboard 200, selling about 29,000 copies in its first week. As of July 11, 2007, the album has sold 123,972 copies in the US. There have been two singles released: “Say This Sooner” and Southern Weather”. Both have music videos, which can be seen on MySpace, TV, and fuse. Say This Sooner has also been released to mainstream radio and as reached as high as #7 on Modern Rock Tracks.

In the Heart of the Young was the second album by American glam metal band Winger. It was released by Atlantic Records in 1990.

Musically, In the Heart of the Young followed closely in the footsteps of the band’s debut album. Once again produced by Beau Hill, the album features hook driven, progressive-tinged, radio friendly pop metal. There are, however, also some notable changes from the debut. In the second half of the album the lyrics take on a more serious approach than was typical for the genre and the band also stretches out into longer and more complex progressive passages than on the first Winger album.

The album was certified platinum and produced such hits as “Can’t Get Enuff”, “Easy Come Easy Go” and “Miles Away”, the latter of which made the Top 20 at Billboard’s single chart. According to Kip Winger, “Can’t Get Enuff” and “Easy Come Easy Go” were late additions to the track listing, written because it was felt there were not enough rock songs on the album. The album itself peaked at #15 at the album chart.

Winger followed the release of the album with a 13 month world tour, playing with KISS, Scorpions, ZZ Top, Extreme and Slaughter.

A collection of music videos with the same title was released the following year in two separate VHS volumes.
