    Product Description:

Tired of reading HTML books that only make sense after you’re an expert? Then it’s about time you picked up Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML and really learned HTML. You want to learn HTML so you can finally create those web pages you’ve always wanted, so you can communicate more effectively with friends, family, fans, and fanatic customers. You also want to do it right so you can actually maintain and expand your Web pages over time, and so your web pages work in all the browsers and mobile devices out there. Oh, and if you’ve never heard of CSS, that’s okay–we won’t tell anyone you’re still partying like it’s 1999–but if you’re going to create Web pages in the 21st century then you’ll want to know and understand CSS.

Learn the real secrets of creating Web pages, and why everything your boss told you about HTML tables is probably wrong (and what to do instead). Most importantly, hold your own with your co-worker (and impress ~censored~ party guests) when he casually mentions how his HTML is now strict, and his CSS is in an external style sheet.

With Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML, you’ll avoid the embarrassment of thinking web-safe colors still matter, and the foolishness of slipping a font tag into your pages. Best of all, you’ll learn HTML and CSS in a way that won’t put you to sleep. If you’ve read a Head First book, you know what to expect: a visually-rich format designed for the way your brain works. Using the latest research in neurobiology, cognitive science, and learning theory, this book will load HTML, CSS, and XHTML into your brain in a way that sticks.

So what are you waiting for? Leave those other dusty books behind and come join us in Webville. Your tour is about to begin.

    Product Description:

The newly revised and expanded edition of the bestseller, Practical Insight into CMMI® is an essential reference for engineering, IT and management professionals striving to grasp the “look and feel of a successful business oriented process improvement implementation”. The second edition brings you up to speed on CMMI® Version 1.2 and includes new material on reviews and testing; quality factors, quality criteria, and quality metrics; physical architecture; change control boards, supplier agreement management; interfaces; constraints on alternative solutions; causal analysis techniques, evolving measurements; and applying CMMI® to manufacturing. Taking you beyond the Capability Maturity Model® to the integrated world of systems and software, this comprehensive resource presents CMMI® Version 1.2 in a manner that is easy to comprehend by higher-level managers and practitioners alike. Written by a world-renowned expert in the field, the book offers a clear picture of the activities an organization would be engaged in if their systems and software engineering processes were based on CMMI®. The book teaches the roles and responsibilities of professionals at all levels, from senior and middle management to project leaders and quality assurance personnel.

Offering a full appreciation of the power of CMMI® to enhance systems and software process improvement initiatives, this invaluable reference captures the essence of each of process area by presenting it in a practical context. From project monitoring and control, quality management, and requirements engineering, to risk management, integrated teams, and measurement programs, this authoritative volume provides you with a complete understanding of CMMI® and the benefits of this integrated approach in your organization.

Summary: Pragmatic and filled with ideas
    Rating: 5

As in his previous book, ‘Action Focused Assessment for Software Process Improvement’ (ISBN 1580532861) Kasse does deep into issues and important factors without losing sight of the big picture. His approach to the CMMI is straightforward, but he also provides context and background, and is especially cogent in explaining the differences between the older CMM variants and the integrated model. I particularly liked the way he explains staged and continuous representation approaches, and how he leads you through choosing between the two if implementing CMMI is a goal.

The heart of this book, though, is the practical benefits from the CMMI and how to achieve them. He is heavily focused on how the CMMI relates to system engineering and project-based organizations, and goes into detail about integrated teaming, project and product management. In addition, there is a wealth of material on process improvement, quality and related topics such as requirements management. Mr. Kasse’s previous books and published works are heavily slanted towards those topics, so there should be no surprise about the amount of emphasis he given them in this book. Of course, the emphasis is warranted because process improvement and quality are two key goals of CMMI, as is integrated teamwork.

With a plethora of books about CMMI this one stands out because of the straightforward way Kasse describes the why’s and how’s, and the clarity with which he discusses implementation (and its barriers). There is no hype or hyperbole, unrealistic promises or contrived benefits – just plain talk that will give you a solid understanding of the CMMI and what it takes to implement it.

    Atkins' Physical Chemistry, 8th Edition
I’ve seen this out there over 500 Megs claiming HQ -High Quality…..but I really dont know what the big deal is……I made this one and its under 200 Megs and here’s some screens of it……look pretty quality to me

    Atkins' Physical Chemistry, 8th Edition
    Atkins' Physical Chemistry, 8th Edition

Atkins’ Physical Chemistry remains the benchmark of achievement for a chemistry degree throughout the world. The judicious choice of topics, the clear writing style of both authors, and the careful exposition of maths, reaffirm the book’s position as market leader. In the eighth edition the authors provide a more compact presentation through the careful restructuring and redistribution of material. The coverage of introductory topics has been streamlined, and later topics rationalized, bringing into sharper focus the scope of the text to mirror the needs of today’s students and lecturers. Mathematics remains an intrinsic yet challenging part of physical chemistry; the new edition offers greater explanation and support, to ensure that students can master the important mathematical principles, without sacrificing the rigour and depth of its mathematical content. The pedagogical framework, which is a hallmark of Atkins’ writing, has been strengthened further: new ‘Notes on good practice’ provide guidance on the use of terminology and help students to avoid common pitfalls; short ‘Commentaries’ remind students of the applications of mathematical and physical concepts, and provide useful cross-references to related resources in the book and on the accompanying companion web site. The eighth edition introduces new ‘Impact on’ sections which integrate the impact of physical chemistry on modern applications such as biology, biochemistry, medicine, nanoscience and astrophysics. All these exciting new features and innovations are presented within a new full colour text design, to stimulate and engage students still further.

Hal Leonard Play Acoustic – Book only

Hal Leonard Play Acoustic - Book Only

The acoustic guitar is the instrument of the people and Play Acoustic tells the people how to play it. This detailed and beautifully illustrated book explores the history of the acoustic guitar, from the jazz age to the folk revolutions of the early 1960s and late 1990s to the current rebirth of bluegrass and the singer-songwriter boom of the past decade. Skilled professional musicians and experienced tutors coach the reader through 11 styles, using exercises suitable to novice players new to each style and working up to full pieces and advanced techniques. Entire chapters are devoted to folk, rock and pop, blues, country, bluegrass, jazz, and more, with detailed guidance through both musical notation and tablature, diagrams, and explanatory text. An accompanying CD also offers listening examples of the most crucial of these exercises, to help players master each style.

By Chris “the most passionate music/film fan alive.” (Philly suburbs, PA) – See all my reviews
This book is fantastic. The two CDs it comes with are great, too. Not all exercises are on the CDs… but there are a TON of exercises to work on. The author covers many, many styles.. classical, folk, “jangle”, blues, rock, etc.. arpeggios, jangle sequences, fingerpicking, scale practice, chords, altered tunings..

You can’t find a better book on acoustic guitar instruction. I LOVE the stuff put out by Backbeat Books… they’re ALWAYS of the highest quality, and the most practical AND fun…. and here’s yet another book that cites the Smiths as a reference with a certain style/sound. The Smiths (and especially Johnny Marr’s work within the band)… that’s great guitar, there.

Do yourself a favor and pick this up. The title’s generic, I know… but when they say Play Acoustic, they mean it.

If you play piano, too… you can do no better than the Piano Handbook (same publisher, same spiral-bound book, same look and layout). A great find.
